• Hiking
You can start from right out our door or choose from a number of established trails in the greater Homer area. Make sure to include a beach hike.
Most visitors don't have muskeg at home. Most don't know what it even is. Find out for yourself, and be immersed in the "real Alaska". Rubber boots recommended, but not mandatory.
We have "high and dry" walking trails and open fields right from the guest house. See thousands of square miles of views in all directions, and usually minimal bugs. Walk the slope down to our pond, which takes about five minutes, and enjoy a seat on the rock outcrop.
Don't leave without walking up Epperson Knob, truly one of the incredible jewels of the Kenai.
• Biking
Our neighborhood is one of the premier biking locations around Homer. People travel from Homer almost every weekend, including many winter ones, to pedal the North Fork Road, which is just ½ mile coast downhill from the Guest House.
For a real challenge try biking in some of our more severe winter biking conditions.
• Birding
While it is not unusual to see eagles among the numerous bird species that reside around the guest house in the summer, a wide variety of shorebirds also arrive each spring. Homer has an annual Shorebird Festival to celebrate their arrival.
• Kayaking
It doesn't get any better than this. Kachemak Bay is famous for its incredible waters and scenery, as experienced by kayak. Upclose wildlife opportunites abound thanks to the silence of your kayak's movement. It is not unusual to see a black bear roaming the shore for a meal, or any of a number of sea creatures that include otters, seals, and whales.
Day and overnight opportunities are available for you to have your chance to experience the protected waters in and around Kachemak Bay.
• Relaxing
Don't think you have to see it all and do it all. A few days visit here, combined with some casual drives, museum and gallery visits, or sitting on the beach , can give you the rejuvenation you seek, after slogging around the urban environment you likely came from. It is easy to burn time within walking distance of the guest house. Incredible, constantly changing views of pastoral hills, ocean, mountains,volcanoes, and glaciers.

• Oh yeah. Fishing
Homer is called the "Halibut Fishing Capital of the World". And for good reason. Someone takes home a large cash prize each year for the biggest Halibut. The top winner is always in excess of 300 pounds!
Beside halibut, a variety of salmon fishing opportunities, both salt and fresh water, abound throughout the summer. King Salmon fishing in the Anchor River is very popular at the end of May and early June. In the fall, fish for steelhead, dolly varden, and silver salmon.

• Skiing
We have miles and miles of virgin cross country skiing, with a groomed trail virtually right from our guesthouse. The hills nearby provide endless hours of skiing opportunities. The terrain here allows for all skill levels. Heck, it's easy enough to burn a day of skiing, and never leave sight of the guest house. Combine that with long Spring days and you couldn't ask for more - except for perfect weather, which we do our best to provide.
• Dog Mushing
We can provide you with a tailor-made dog mushing adventure. From day trips that return to the guesthouse, to overnight excursions in the wild, let us know what you want. We can customize it to meet your idea.
• Snowmobiling
Ride til your seat wears out or your arms fall off. This is premier country for snowmachines. The trail starts here and goes for literally endless miles of sledding. If this isn't good enough, then "too bad".
• Snowshoeing
If that's your idea of a good time, then bring it on.
• Winter Biking
The challenge level changes from day to day.
• Tubing
One of North America's largest groomed tubing facilities is located about 30 minutes from here. A fast and fun way to spend a day. Your kids, and the kid in you, will love it.
• Ice Skating
An indoor facility is offered in Homer, as well as an outdoor skating opportunity at Beluga Lake in Homer.
• Winter Beach Hikes
Even if you only do it for a few minutes, it is worth the effort.
The solitude, the light, the water are shown in ways that only Winter can provide.
• Lay on the snow when the stars, and if you're lucky - the Auroras, are out. Wow!
• Use our wintertime hot tub. Get down and really relax.
